Acne Scarring and Treatment Options

Acne itself is bad enough, but the damage done to some people by the more aggressive forms of it can last a lifetime. Scarring, pitting and very enlarged pores can detract from your appearance long after the pimples have gone away. Until recently, harsh chemicals were used to literally burn off the offending layer of skin. These chemical peels were fairly effective, but the recovery and healing time was significant.
Modern laser resurfacing is a more precise and targeted approach to dealing with the problem. Some types of radio frequency treatments (known as thermage) are also used to re-invigorate the underlying skin. Both of these options are expensive, and thermage is not considered a permanent solution. Since I'm not a doctor, I cannot recommend or prescribe either of these for a given case of scarring.
One natural method of dealing with skin damage that I am aware of is becoming more and more popular with those who prefer a natural method of correcting scars. Emu oil, extracted from farm-raised emus (flightless Australian birds) has attracted a lot of attention for its amazing properties. It has a unique ability to not only penetrate the skin and reach the deep layers below, but can actually help to heal skin damage. This includes wrinkles, burns, scarring, pitting and other types of skin problems.
In addition, a clinical test of this oil, applied to the skin, actually demonstrated a measurable pain relieving effect. Some are using this remarkable preparation for reducing the pain of arthritis, but there's no real clinical evidence for its effectiveness for this type of pain.
